Dear Tigers Community,

Tonight marks the first official games VJBL games for the 2025/26 VJBL season. We cannot wait to see our teams putting together all the hard work and learnings of the past few weeks and represent the Tigers proudly. With this in mind it is an important time to remind the community that as of tonight, two important technical-foul policies come into effect across our Junior Representative program. These policies aim to support respectful behaviour, uphold our club values, and ensure our athletes and team staff are aware of the processes and consequences surrounding technical fouls within the VJBL.

Please take a moment to familiarise yourselves with the key points below.

MCBA Junior Representative Technical Foul Policy
This policy applies to all Junior Tigers athletes and team staff and works in conjunction with the VJBL’s system.

What happens when a Technical Foul is reported?
- Referees submit the tech foul through official VJBL processes.
- MCBA receives weekly tech foul reports.

Internal MCBA Requirements
Anyone receiving a tech foul will be contacted and must:
- Complete an internal online reporting form, providing a written explanation of the incident. - Have their report reviewed by the MCBA Administration Manager, who identifies required follow-up or education.

For Athletes:
- First Technical Foul → 1-match internal suspension (must attend training, attend game, and sit on bench). Two or More Technical Fouls → Suspension defaults to VJBL penalties.
- Further education or meetings may occur, especially for repeat offences.

For Team Staff:
- No internal suspension for the first technical foul. Education and follow-up will occur where appropriate.
- Repeat or serious incidents may lead to further review.

Exceptions
Technical fouls issued for non-behavioural reasons will not result in an internal suspension.

VJBL Behavioural Technical Foul Penalties
The VJBL enforces escalating suspensions for behavioural technical fouls issued to coaches, assistant coaches, bench staff and players:
- 2 Tech Fouls → 1 Game Suspension
- 3 Tech Fouls → 2 Game Suspension
- 4 Tech Fouls → 4 Game Suspension
- 5 Tech Fouls → 6 Game Suspension

Additional notes:
- Non-behavioural techs do not count toward these totals. If a player or coach is ejected and both techs relate to referee abuse, the VJBL may add an additional 1-game suspension.
- After each round, associations are notified of all techs issued.

These policies are in place to maintain a positive, respectful, and professional playing environment for all members of the basketball community. Your support in understanding and following these expectations helps uphold the standard we strive for at the Melbourne Tigers.

Go Tigers!
